For example, there is currently a company with a TV ad that promises savings of up to 30% on your electric bills and others promise a payback of a few short months. In my opinion these companies are playing fast and loose with facts.
A smart homeowner starts with a little research. The following link is information provided by the department of energy:

Texas and other high sun-day states are the best places for installs but results will vary. Make sure that as a homeowner YOU are comfortable with the investment in your home.
In my experience this is what a homeowner should keep in mind:
1) Energy bill savings depend on your energy usage and the unique nature of the home itself. In a few unique cases more than 20% savings is possible.
2)TRBTexas uses the best foil radiant barrier on the market. Tough, durable, and 97% reflective to thermal energy. Our Foil radiant barrier will not need to be replaced.
3) Spray on barriers are the most common barrier installed. They are high profit installations and are not worth the money. Don't fall for the 50% off special!
- Spray on barrier is paint and like paint it is good for 3-5 years before it needs to be replaced.
- Paint barriers are at BEST 29% less effective. The complexities involved with application and mixing of paint makes then even less effective.
4) TRB foil is always 97% reflective to thermal energy after install. If you can see the bottom of your roof there is no coverage on that area, simple as that. There is no easy or visual check for coverage with a spray-on application.
I invite any questions you may have about TRB of Texas. Check out the gallery photos of a recent installation on this blog. Keep in mind that all pictures were taken with the same camera with only one light in the attic. You can see the dramatic change from start to finish.
